Two Iranian Philosophers to Be Commemorated

TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- A conference in commemoration of two great Estarabadian philosophers -- Mirdamad and Mirfendereski -- is to be held in the city of Estarabad, Golestan Province in September and October, 2004.

According to the Mehr News Agency, the conference is to be held with cooperation of the Governor-General Office of Golestan Province, the Academy of Science of the Islamic Republic, Iran’s Research Institute of Philosophy, and Mirdamad Cultural Institute.

It should be noted that Mirdamad and Mirfendereski were teachers of Mollasadra (Sadreddin Mohammad Shirazi). They have been overlooked due to the great success of their student.

Although “The Scholar of Estarabad,” published by Information Publications, is a book on the ideas and life of Mirdamad, no book has yet been published on the life story of Mirfendereski. Hopefully, Estarabad conference will pave the way for publishing a book on the ideas of this great philosopher of the Safavid era.
