TEHRAN -- May 1 marks the 84th birth anniversary of contemporary Iranian author Amir-Hushang Shams Mostofi, who wrote Iran’s first book on journalism.

In 1945, Mostofi wrote the book “Journalism”, which focused on the field of journalism and the history of journalism in Iran.

He was born in Tehran in 1922 and was educated by his father Ali Shams. Later, he traveled to England to study journalism and returned home after obtaining a Ph.D.

Back in Iran, he established the newspaper “Man of Today”, and wrote his second book, which was on morality in journalism and the issue of freedom of speech.

He then wrote the books “The Principles of Journalism in the World” and “History of the Press in France”. Both were published in 1964 and were later translated into French and English.

He was also interested in photography and printing and studied topography.

Shams Mostofi died in 1988 and was buried in Abharak village near Karaj.

There are also several unpublished books by Mostofi, which were donated to the Astan-e Qods Razavi Library in Mashhad, as he had requested in his will.
