Gharibpur to stage opera puppet show of “Macbeth”
According to an agreement signed on Wednesday, the opera will be co-produced by the Rudaki Foundation and the Dramatic Arts Center, Gharibpur told ISNA on Friday.
He said that there are many librettos of the work, but he chose Giuseppe Verdi’s libretto.
The show will be performed at Tehran’s Ferdowsi Hall by the Aran puppetry troupe, he added.
Eleven main and 60 supporting puppets have been designed by Gharibpur.
The puppets in his previous show “Rustam and Sohrab” were designed and produced in Austria, but he is determined to make use of Iranian puppets in “Macbeth”, Gharibpur explained.
He stated that it would take four months to produce the puppets and expressed hope that the show would be ready two months later.
If things go as planned, the opera will probably be performed in the sideline section of the Fajr Theater Festival in winter 2007, he added.
“Rustam and Sohrab” was the first opera puppet show directed by Gharibpur based on a Shahnameh story. One hundred puppets and 15 puppeteers were used in the performance, and the music was composed and conducted by Loris Tjeknavorian.
