TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council for international affairs Javad Vaeedi on Sunday called for adopting a rational approach in dealing with western moves to pass more UN resolutions against Iran.

He told students at the University of Science and Technology that it is too optimistic to assume that they will give up abruptly. “They will do their best to exert more pressures on us,” he underlined.
“We should disappoint them by adopting a rational approach to this end,” he said.
“We should raise hopes of those who believe that exerting pressure on Iran gets nowhere while disappointing those who call for more pressure on Iran,” he said.
“We should convince them that their strategy in the past three years was futile,” Vaeedi said.
On upcoming trilateral talks between Iran-Iraq and US over Iraq’s security, he said that the talks would merely focus on Iraq’s security and there is no room for Iran’s nuclear programs in such talks, he underlined.
“We cannot allow a situation similar to that during the Baath regime to prevail in Iraq once again,” he said.
Iran attaches importance to Iraq’s security and there is no room for other issues, he pointed out.
Iran regards Iraq’s security as its own, Vaeedi said.
Rampant insecurity in Iraq is rooted in the presence of occupying forces and Iran attached prime importance to Iraq’s security, he said.
