TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said on Tuesday that Iran's diplomatic machine is very effective in dealing with regional and international developments.

Addressing a meeting of Tehran University students, the spokesman said that a major factor to assess the success of a foreign policy is to see how much it can serve national interest and security.
Reacting to local and foreign media criticism of Tehran’s foreign policy, he said, “Certain media are portraying Iran's diplomatic body as isolated.”
He argued that a review of the key role that Iran plays in helping resolve regional and international crises would prove how the Foreign Ministry is performing effectively.
The spokesman also advised foreign embassies in Tehran against meddling in the country's internal affairs in the run up to the 2009 presidential elections.
""Any action or effort which may sway the upcoming presidential elections in Iran, is unacceptable,"" Press TV quoted Qashqavi as saying.
Qashqavi acknowledged that it was natural for foreign embassies in Tehran and Iranian embassies outside the country to maintain contact with governmental and non-governmental individuals, but said contact or relations that affect the election process are not acceptable.
