BAQUBA (Xinhua) -- At least 11 Iraqi soldiers were killed and some 29 people wounded in a suicide car bomb attack targeted local government compound in a town in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala on Monday, a provincial police source told Xinhua.

The attack took place in the morning when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the entrance of the local government compound of the town of Kan'an, some 20 km east of the provincial capital city of Baquba, the source said on condition of anonymity.
The suicide bomber blew up his vehicle outside a two storey- building in the compound and totally destroyed it, the source said.
“The police report said that the deaths were all soldiers, and we have 14 others wounded by the blast, 15 government officials at the compound were also wounded,” the source added.
Iraqi security forces sealed off the scene while rescue teams were removing debris of the collapsed building, looking for more possible victims of the powerful blast, he said.
