TEHRAN – The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Tuesday congratulated Frank-Walter Steinmeier on his election as Germany’s next president.

“Please accept my sincere congratulation on your election as the president of the German Federal Republic,” Ali Shamkhani wrote, IRNA reported.

He wished health and success for the new president of Germany and prosperity and progress for Germany’s government and nation.

Steinmeier was elected as the 12th German president after the World War II on Sunday.
