TEHRAN - Soura Women Lawyers Association has accepted 160 cases of disadvantaged women and child abuse for free during its first year of activity.

“Our attorneys have been working hard to provide the disadvantage women with legal services and they don’t consider their work done at the final court, but they keep in touch with their clients as social activists and help them recover and get back to normal life,” ISNA quoted Marzieh Mohebbi, the executive director of the association as saying on Monday.

With the mention of 38 prison release cases over the past year, Mohebbi added: “Most of these women have gone through long prison sentences and in some situations their toddlers were in prison with them.”

She explained “Our attorneys put their hearts into aiding these women. They even paid hearing fees. In some cases they’ve collected money to pay the clients’ fine, provide housing for them and support them to be back on their feet.”

Soura women lawyers started their official work in December 2015 in Khorasan Razavi province. Their aim is to help women and children in need so they pay weekly visits to prisons in the city of Mashhad to offer free legal advice to jailed women.
