Policeman, known as living martyr, dies after 10 years in coma

TEHRAN - Seyyed Nourkhoda Mousavi Mofrad, known as “the living martyr” in Iran, died while in a comatose state on Tuesday.

Mousavi Mofrad, a police officer from Lorestan province, had been shot in the head by members of the Jundullah terrorist group, under the infamous Abdolmalek Rigi network, while on duty in the border province of Sistan-Baluchistan in March 2009. Critically injured, Mousavi Mofared went into coma to remain in a persistent vegetative state for ten years. 

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei sent a message of condolence over his martyrdom.

Mousavi Mofrad’s funeral was held in his hometown Khorramabad on Thursday. Thousands of people from all walks of life, the police chief, and local officials attended the procession.
