Valencia Confirm Deal for AC Milan's Ayala

VALENCIA, Spain Valencia have agreed with AC Milan's Ayala in a deal worth close to 800 million pesetas ($4.31 million), a Valencia spokesman told Reuters on Tuesday.
"The player will join the club in June 2001," said the spokesman.
"He will, however, play this season in Argentina on loan for River Plate." The spokesman said the Spanish club will also have the option of incorporating the player into their ranks in December if they survive in the Champions League. Valencia were beaten by Real Madrid in the 1999/2000 final.
Ayala still has to agree personal terms with Valencia and pass a medical before the switch is completed.
Ayala joined Milan in the summer of 1998 from Napoli having made his name in Argentina with River Plate.
He was part of the Milan team which won the Italian title in 1999 but struggled to hold down a regular place last season.
The recent arrival of Brazilian defender Roque Junior has further restricted his chances at the San Siro.
