TEHRAN Three lawmakers strongly condemned the statement by the U.S. congressmen in which they called on the U.S. administration to toughen its policy on Iran. Deputies Ali Tajernia, Reza Youssefian and Qorban-Ali Qandehari, talking to the TEHRAN TIMES, blasted some 225 congressmen who, on Oct.
11, asked the U.S. administration to abandon efforts toward rapprochement with Iran. Tajernia said, "I believe the statement by the American lawmakers was a reaction against Iran's support for the Palestinians and their armed struggle against the Zionists." "The statement, I think, was also aimed at wooing the voters on the eve of the presidential elections in the United States," he added.
"Majlis will give an appropriate response to the U.S. lawmakers' anti-Iran move very soon," he told the TEHRAN TIMES. Youssefian pointed out that there is an influential Zionist lobby in the United States that supports the Zionist regime. "The Zionist lobby aims to undermine the efforts by some commercial companies in that country that are urging Washington to lift its sanctions against Iran," he noted. "We will strongly react against those harming our national interests," Youssefian warned.
Qandehari told the TEHRAN TIMES, "The congressmen have failed to grasp the realities of the day due to their reactionary attitude." He further said, "The U.S. follows a policy of double standard, since despite its human rights claims, it supports the atrocities of Zionists against Palestinians and also backs the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization." "The American citizens should express their abhorrence over the double dealing of their officials and congressmen," he suggested.
