TEHRAN – The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in reaction to the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Gandi hospital in Tehran has said that according to international humanitarian law health is not a target.

Health facilities are protected under international humanitarian law, the official made the remarks in a post on X, ISNA reported.

“During today’s bombardment of the Iranian capital are extremely worrying. WHO is working to verify the incident. But it serves as a reminder that all efforts must be taken to prevent health facilities from being caught up in the ongoing conflict.”

Following the bombardment of hospitals in Iran by the United States, and Israel, Hossein Kermanpour, an official with the health ministry in a post on his X account noted that  “the ledger of violated human rights in this war will be written in blood and shame.”

“For the first time in my life, I am witnessing something I never even saw during the Iran-Iraq War. Patients being carried in their caregivers’ arms, fleeing into smoke-filled streets after missiles exploded beside their hospital.

Just hours ago, several missiles struck near Abuzar Hospital in the city of Ahvaz. Twenty-one patients — including those admitted to the ICU — were transferred by 30 ambulances to other medical centers. My colleagues carried out the evacuation under smoke and shock.

After what happened to Abuzar Hospital, to three emergency bases in Sarab, Chabahar, and Hamedan, to two injured EMS personnel, and to Khatam Hospital, Motahari Hospital, and Gandhi Hospital in Tehran— the ledger of violated human rights in this war will be written in blood and shame.”
