Mexican academics express sympathy, solidarity with Iranian nation
TEHRAN – A group of Mexican university professors have written a letter, expressing their sympathy and solidarity with the Iranian nation amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli attacks to the country’s civilian, medical, and educational centers.
“We write to you today with a heavy heart to express our deepest sympathy and unwavering solidarity with you, with our academic colleagues, and with the Iranian people during these incredibly difficult times,” the letter addresses Professor Saied Reza Ameli, the founder and dean of the faculty of the world studies at the University of Tehran, who also serves as the head of the UNESCO Chair on Cyberspace and Culture.
“As scholars, we deeply revere Iran as the home of one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations, a region whose historical, cultural, and intellectual contributions have profoundly shaped human history for millennia.
It is with profound sorrow and alarm that we witness the recent escalation of violence and the devastating bombardment of your country.
The reports of attacks on civilian infrastructure, including primary schools, hospitals, ambulances, sports complexes, historical monuments, and cultural sites, are deeply distressing.
The targeting of such institutions is a direct violation of international law and the fundamental principles of global peace and security. We join the voices of the international community, guided by the data of organizations such as UNICEF and the WHO, in unequivocally condemning the destruction of spaces dedicated to life, learning, and human well-being.
In times of unjustified war and unprovoked aggression, the global academic community must stand united. We stand with the Iranian people in their right to self-defense, sovereignty, and the preservation of their rich heritage.
Please know that you are not alone at this dark hour. We send you our strength, our prayers for the victims, and our fervent hope for a swift return to peace and justice.”
