TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has called on UN Security Council members—particularly China and Russia—to adopt a firmer stance against U.S.-Israeli aggression on his country, and to prevent Washington from using the Council as a tool to pressure Tehran.

During a phone call on Tuesday with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Araghchi discussed recent regional developments and the repercussions of U.S.-Israeli military aggression against Iran.

He criticized the United States and some of its allies for attempting to politicize the Security Council, arguing that the body has failed to uphold its responsibility to maintain international peace and security. The Iranian diplomat noted that the Council has overlooked the root cause of the current crisis—illegal U.S. and Israeli actions—while directing criticism at Iran, which is acting in self-defense.

He also stressed that Iran expects Security Council members, especially China and Russia, to take a clear and firm position by condemning the military actions and preventing the continued misuse of the Council by the United States.

In response, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s position, condemning the unlawful attacks by the United States and Israel and warning against any violations of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also emphasized the importance of rejecting "unilateral" and "hegemonic" approaches in international affairs and called for resolving disputes through diplomacy and in accordance with international law, according to an official Iranian readout of the conversation.
