TEHRAN The Tajan irrigation network and drainage system went on stream on Tuesday in Mazandaran Province. Energy Minister Habibullah Bitaraf attended the opening ceremony for the system, which will improve irrigation for 45,000 hectares of farmland in Sari and Dasht-e Naz. The energy minister stressed the necessity of establishing irrigation networks and drainage systems to conserve water. The minister said that the establishment of a farmers cooperative company is very important because there has been poor water management in some parts of the country due to the lack of such associations. Mazandaran Province has several rivers that provide very good opportunities for agricultural development in the region.
