TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) – MP Javad Eta’at said here on Monday that he expected the Majlis deputies to overwhelmingly approve Jafar Tofiqi as the new minister of science, research and technology in the chamber’s Wednesday open session.

Eta’at told the Mehr News Agency that Tofiqi was very likely to receive a high vote of confidence from the Majlis, given his strong academic and management credentials.

He spoke highly of the qualities and abilities of former science minister, Mostafa Mo'in, stressing that Tofiqi should follow Mo'in’s policies.

“The viewpoint of most Majlis deputies as well as academicians is that Mo'in was a special personality, and whoever takes his place should realize this and should try to follow his policies,” said Eta’at, who represents Darab in the Majlis.

President Khatami in August accepted Mo'in's resignation after he wrote in his resignation letter that he could not continue his efforts in the current situation of the country.

Khatami accordingly appointed him as his advisor and introduced Reza Faraji Dana to the Majlis to replace Mo’in.

However, the Majlis did not approve Faraji Dana for what many MPs believed was his lack of political experience.

Khatami last week introduced Tofiqi as the new candidate for the post of science minister.
