BAGHDAD (AFP) -- The European Union trio dealing with Iran on its nuclear program has asked Baghdad to transmit a message to Tehran on the issue, according to a statement from Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari's office.

Ambassadors of Britain, France and Germany met Jaafari on Saturday and had told him of the "concern of the European Union countries over the Iranian nuclear program and their desire for Iraq to pass a message to the Iranian government to resolve the crisis," it said.

No details were given about the contents of the asked-for message.

The three diplomats "expressed hope that the Iranian government would suspend its nuclear activities", the statement added.
