TEHRAN -- Ebrahim Hatamikia’s “In the Name of Father” is scheduled to premiere on Iranian Fathers’ Day (August 8), which is celebrated annually on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS) according to the lunar calendar.

Starring Parviz Parastuii, Mahtab Nasirpur, Golshifteh Farahani, and Kambiz Dirbaz, “In the Name of Father” tells the story of an Iranian war veteran who was an expert mine layer during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. Several years after the end of the war, his archaeology student daughter is injured by a mine buried in an ancient mound during the war.

The film won Crystal Simorghs for best film in the Iranian and Asian films sections, best screenplay, best actor, best supporting actress, and best makeup artist at the 24th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran last January.

Hatamikia’s previous film, “In Color of Purple”, was banned by the Iranian Intelligence Ministry during the 2005 Fajr festival. The film was a romance story between the daughter of a counterrevolutionary and an Iranian Intelligence Ministry agent.
