Dousti Dam project sign of strong Iran-Turkmenistan ties: MP
In addition to the dam project, the two countries maintain trade relations too, Hossein Hosseini said.
Referring to the death of the country’s late president Sapar Saparmurat Niyazov, the representative of Fariman and Sarakhs in Majlis (Iranian parliament), said that the president’s rule over Turkmenistan was considered to have a significant impact on the nation.
He also commented that if they –Turkmenistan’s future authorities- act accordingly, we would continue our good relations with them, the Persian service of ISNA quoted the legislator as saying here on Monday.
The Dousti Dam (Friendship Dam) was constructed under a joint venture project between Iran and Turkmenistan. It is built on Harirud River, running through the joint borders between the two neighboring countries.
The dam supplying irrigation water for some 25,000 hectares of farmlands in the region became operational last year. RA/ML END MNA
