TOKYO Japan's World Cup midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata will soon announce his move to Italian side Perugia from his J-league club Bellmare Hiratsuka, a report said Tuesday. Hiratsuka will make the announcement on Wednesday here, Jiji press news agency said, adding that Nakata would be the second Japanese to play in a Serie A team after Kazuyoshi Kazu Miura. Hiratsuka president Yoshinori Shigematsu, who has said he will respect the 21-year-old's wishes, was quoted as saying Nakata was in the final stage of negotiation with one team.

An Italian paper said earlier this month that Nakata, the Asian footballer of the year, had signed a four-year contract worth six billion lira (3.5 million dollars) with the newly-promoted Italian side. Nakata, with his orange-dyed hair, was the outstanding Japanese player in the World Cup in France. (AFP)
