Iran highest dam Karun 4 over 45% complete
When completed, the concrete gravity arch dam with a height of 230 meters will be the highest water reservoir in the country.
The main objectives behind the construction of the giant structure has been cited as the generating of 2,100 gigawatts of electricity per hour and more importantly the curbing of the flooding of Karun River and the saving of the precious waters from Zagros mountain ranges for later uses in the parched lands of the region.
The hydroelectric dam is being built at the immediate upstream of confluence of Karun River and is located in the country’s central province of Chaharmahal-o-Bakhtiari, 180km southwest of Shahr-e Kord.
To build the dam, around 413,000 cubic meters of concrete has been used and 5.3 million cubic feet of excavation has been carried out.
