TEHRAN -- Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said here on Monday that Iran will respond to the major powers’ package of incentives after it finished studying it.
European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana visited Tehran on Saturday to present a new package of proposals offered by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, with the aim of ending Tehran’s six-year nuclear standoff with the West.“The Islamic Republic’s views (on the nuclear package) will be announced after examinations are over,” Mottaki told reporters on the sidelines of 18th International Conference on the Persian Gulf.
The 5+1 group’s proposals include the issue of regional security, he said, adding that energy management in the Persian Gulf is very important to European countries and major energy consumers in Asia.
On the possibility of a military attack against Iran by the United States, he said considering U.S. repeated failures in implementing its policies “we do not believe Washington would be in a position to create another crisis for its taxpayers.
