TEHRAN -- Bahrain’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nizar al-Baharna insists on indispensability of the 5+1 group’s cooperation with Iran.

“The one-sided cooperation of Iran is not enough; the 5+1 group must cooperate with the Iranians,” said Nizar al-Baharna in an exclusive interview with IRNA.
Supportive of Iran’s nuclear program, the Bahraini minister called diplomacy as the only remedy in Iran’s nuclear dispute. Al-Baharna stressed the necessity of allowing the evolution of two-way cooperation between Iran and the West.
Al-Baharna declared Bahrain’s opposition to the double-standard policies at work in the region, saying, “Ratcheting up pressure on Iran is not fair; instead, the international community should pressure Israel to stop its nuclear arms program.”
Israel and the Western states are at loggerheads with Iran, accusing it of pursuing nuclear weaponry; the claim is that Iran’s uranium enrichment program is aimed at fuel for a nuclear weapons program.
Israel, pioneer in opposition to Iran’s nuclear program, is widely believed to posses more than 200 nuclear warheads. Tel Aviv has so far defied the international call to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Tehran, as a signatory to the NPT, insists that it has the right to use the nuclear technology for civilian purposes.
The Bahraini senior official evaluated Iran’s nuclear standoff as the Middle East’s second most important issue after Palestine.
