Czech Olympic Discus Champion Danek Dies

PRAGUE - Ludvik Danek, who won the discus gold medal for Czechoslovakia at the 1972 Munich Olympics, has died at the age of 61, the Czech Athletics Association said on Tuesday. Danek, the first discus thrower to pass 65 metres, died on Monday, probably of heart failure, the association said. Danek won a silver medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze four years later in Mexico city.

He twice held the world record. (Reuter)
