Tehran conference discusses effects of war on environment

TEHRAN — On Tuesday, a special ceremony was held in Tehran to mark the international Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, which is observed each year by the United Nations on November 6.

The event was held with the theme of conflicts in the West Asia and increase in the incident of dust storms.

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Representative in Iran Gary Lewis read the message of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Ali-Akbar Salehi, director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran; and Masoumeh Ebtekar, chief of the Department of Environment delivered speeches during the event.
