Hormozgan province exports $3.15m of handicrafts

TEHRAN - Handicrafts exports from Hormozgan province reached some $3.15 million during the previous Iranian calendar year 1397 (ended March 20), CHTN reported. 

“Last year, works crafted by artisans of Hormozgan province were exported to Persian Gulf littoral states, Turkey and some European countries, fetching three million and 150 thousand U.S. dollars,” provincial tourism official Sohrab Banavand said, CHTN reported. 

Potteries, mats, glassworks, embroideries and kilim carpets are amongst most important handicrafts of the southern province, the official said, adding “more than 73,000 people are currently working in various fields of handicrafts in Hormozgan.” 

Iran’s handicrafts exports reached $190 million in the first nine months of the year 1397, showing 11 percent growth year on year.

Some 75 percent of Iranian handicrafts are produced by females, according to Masoumeh Ebtekar, vice president for women’s and family affairs.
