MADRID Real Betis reserve goalkeeper Joaquin Valerio was sent off 40 minutes before kickoff for insulting the referee in his team's match against Albacete in the Spanish second division.
Valerio, who once played for Albacete, was talking to his former teammates in the tunnel during the warm-up for the match when referee Fidel Valle Gil overheard his insult and issued him with a red card.
Betis had to play the match, which ended in a goalless draw, without a reserve 'keeper on the bench.
