Table-Toppers Beat Rivals

TEHRAN Two Azadegan Cup matches were held in Tehran and Rasht Friday, December 8, 2000 and the table-toppers Pirouzi and Esteghlal got the perfect points.

Esteghlal of Tehran sporting blue jerseys and Fajr-e Sepassi from Shiraz clashed in Azadi Stadium during which the host team supported by 15,000 spectators won 2-1.

Faraz Fatemi opened the scoring in the first minute for Fajr-e Sepassi which was twice responded by top scorer Ali Samereh in the 28th minute and Mohammad Navazi seven minutes from the break.

The blues will be without Samereh in Thursday's match against Zob Ahan of Isfahan. He was sent off in the 90th minute yesterday.

In another match in Shahid Dr. Azodi Stadium of Rasht, Gilan Province, Pirouzi was the guest of Esteghlal while around 25,000 fans watched the match.

The red-clad Pirouzi team defeated Esteghlal of Rasht 4-1 to retain the first place of table.

Ali Karimi put Pirouzi ahead in the 22nd minute while other three goals were scored from the penalty spots in the 34th, 38th minutes (Behrouz Rahbari-Fard) and 80th minute (Hamid Estili).

Shahin Bani-Ahmad scored the sole goal of the host two minutes into the second half.

Mohammad Navazi (L) makes it 2-1 for his side Esteghlal.
