RIYADH -- A British frigate en route to wargames in Oman started a two-day exercise with Saudi naval forces off the kingdom's western Red Sea coast on Monday, the British Embassy here said. HMS Cornwall, primarily designed for anti-submarine warfare but also equipped to attack air and surface targets, "will take part in two days of exercises with units of the royal Saudi naval forces," it said. The Type-22 frigate is one of three that will take part in joint British-Omani wargames codenamed Swift Sword II and due to finish in mid-October. The wargames, to which London is sending its biggest flotilla since the 1982 Falklands War, were announced by the British Ministry of defense in July.
