Fierce Clashes Between Afghan Factions Near Kabul

KABUL The heaviest fighting in 10 months broke out north of the Afghan capital Kabul on Friday morning when the Taleban launched an attack on the northern alliance positions. But the commander of the alliance forces said they had repulsed the attack. The Taleban have not made any advances, their attack has been pushed back and intense fighting is continuing. They have suffered heavy casualties, Commander Ahmad Shah Masood told Reuters by satellite telephone.
