TEHRAN -- Tehran Municipality officials recently unearthed two historical steles bearing inscriptions from beneath Takhti Street, the Persian service of the Cultural Heritage News (CHN) agency announced on Tuesday.

“We immediately informed the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (CHTO) and asked them to send some experts to view the steles,” a Tehran Municipality official told CHN.

“According to CHTO experts, the steles date back to almost 400 years ago. However, the inscriptions are indecipherable because some parts have been destroyed,” Mohammadreza Miraftabi added.

He lamented that the CHTO had not sent anyone to collect the steles for a month, claiming that there was no space for the new items in the Tehran Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization depository.

Qadir Afarvand, the CHTO deputy director for technical and maintenance affairs, said that the steles had been scheduled to be delivered to the depository last Monday.
