TEHRAN (PIN) – Isocyanate plant of Karun Petrochemical Complex has progressed more than 93 percent by June 21.

A report issued by the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) noted that the plant will enjoy annual capacity of 80,000 tons and is being carried out in cooperation with foreign companies at Bandar Imam Special Economic Petrochemical Zone.

Progress figures have been mentioned at 98.8 percent in terms of detailed engineering and 87.1 percent in terms of construction of non-industrial complexes.

Also, managing director of Karun Petrochemical Complex noted that the plant will cause the country attain self-sufficiency in producing toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) and methyl di-isocyanate (MDI).

Jalal Movahhed noted that the plant will make Karun Petrochemical Complex the first petrochemical complex in Iran to produce TDI.

“TDI and MDI are very expensive and their added value is very high because the world’s production capacity is very low. The products are currently sold for 1,850 euros per tons,” he added.

Isocyanate plant of Karun Petrochemical Complex is being built over 34 hectares by Karun Petrochemical Complex. Its construction started in the middle half of the Iranian calendar year, 1381, and second phase of construction started in March 2005.

Isocyanate is used as raw material for production industrial foams and sponges, insulators, refrigerator parts, automobile parts, coverings and adhesives.
