Iran stands second at world freestyle wrestling meet

GUANGZHOU, China – Iran ranked second at the 2006 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships here Friday.

With one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, the Iranian side finished runner-up to Russia.

Morad Mohammadi snatched the gold in the 60kg while Ali-Asghar Bazri took the 74kg silver and their teammates Reza Yazdani and Fardin Ma’soumi bagged two bronze medals in the 84 and 120kg classes respectively.

Iran took the sixth title in the 2005 world event with a bronze medal Mohammadi took.

The country finished fifth in the 2006 world Greco-Roman bouts.
