Kolkata filmfest to hold Raisian retrospective

TEHRAN -- The 13th Kolkata International Film Festival, which is currently underway, is to hold a retrospective of Iranian director Alireza Raisian’s works.
A total of 247 films from 56 countries are to go on screen during the eight-day event.In addition, Raisian’s latest film “Havana File” is to be screened in Boston at the Museum of Fine Arts on November 16.
The movie will also be screened in Washington and Houston in January 2008.
Raisian had planned to attend the Boston screening to deliver a lecture on modern Iranian cinema but canceled the trip due to the visa problems experienced by Iranians who want to travel to the United States.
“Havana File” tells the story of Mohsen Pejman, an idealistic, Western-educated scientist involved in a promising biotechnology project who is dismayed to find the government has stepped in, only to cancel it. When he complains to the press, he finds himself the focus of an elaborate smear campaign.
