TEHRAN -- Jalal Al-e Ahmad’s Persian translation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “The Gambler” has been republished by Negah Publications.

The late Jalal Al-e-Ahmad (1923-1969) was a prominent Iranian writer, translator and social and political critic. He translated the novelette “The Gambler” in 1948.
“The Gambler” depicts a remarkable psychological portrait of Alexei Ivanovich's exhilarating and ultimately destructive addiction to gambling. In this work, which narrates the disastrous love affairs of the young man and his gambling adventures, Dostoevsky explores the irresistible temptation to peer into the abyss of ultimate risk that he believed was an essential part of the Russian national character.
