Iranian, Indian flicks share Best Film Award of Tatar fest

TEHRAN -- Rasul Mollaqolipur’s “M for Mother” shared the Best Feature Film Award with Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Jodhaa Akbar” from India at the Golden Minbar International Muslim Film Festival.
The prizes were presented by the jury head Bolotbek Shamshiyev during the closing ceremony of the festival on October 22 in Kazan city, Tatarstan.The Best Actress Award went to Golshifteh Farahani who plays the leading role in the film “M for Mother”.
“M for Mother” narrates the story of a couple who discover that their unborn child will likely be born with serious birth defects, as a result of the mother’s exposure to chemical weapons during the Iran-Iraq war.
Iranian filmmaker Rasul Sadr-Ameli, the director of “Every Night, Loneliness” was also presented with the Best Director Award.
In Islamic terminology, the minbar is the raised pulpit from which imams preach to the faithful.
Organized by the Russian Council of Muftis, the fourth edition of the festival began on October 16. Some 35 movies competed during the festival and 30 films were screened at the Non-Competition Section of the festival.
