TEHRAN - Deputy Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeesi announced that the case of the rogue officers of the Kahrizak detention center will be examined by the Armed Forces Judicial Organization.
“The (examination of the) dossier is underway in the AFJO. The director of the AFJO, the military prosecutor, and the relevant investigator have been urged to swiftly examine the dossier and keep the people informed,” he said here on Tuesday. The Kahrizak detention center, located south of Tehran, was closed on the order of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei because of its substandard conditions and mistreatment of inmates.
In a decree issued on August 29, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani appointed a three man judiciary committee to pursue all issues related to the post-election incidents including the unrest at the University of Tehran dormitory and certain detention centers.
The committee members include Deputy Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeesi, National Prosecutor General Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and Judiciary adviser Ali Khalafi.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Raeesi pointed out that due attention will be paid to the guidelines of the Supreme Leader during the trials of the individuals who were arrested during the recent unrest.
Addressing worshippers in his Eid al-Fitr prayers sermon in Tehran on Sunday and commenting on the recent televised trials of people arrested during the post-election unrest, Ayatollah Khamenei said that according to the national law and the Islamic religion, the confessions the defendants made in front of cameras and millions of viewers are conclusive evidence.
However, he noted that according to Islamic law, the defendants’ remarks about other people should not implicate them.
