TEHRAN -- A collection of comic strips depicting selected anecdotes from Sadi’s Bustan (The Orchard) and Gulistan (The Rose Garden) will be released by Sureh-Mehr Publications in the near future.
The book, which will probably be entitled “Rendestan”, has been designed by the cartoonist Bozorgmehr Hosseinpur. It will be the first volume of “The Comic Strips of Classical Persian Stories” collection.“A team of Iranian cartoonists has been formed for the collection. Although we have looked to ancient Iranian paintings for our inspiration in drawing the comic strips, they are being done in a foreign style,” Hosseinpur told MNA previously.
Hosseinpur has drawn his own interpretations from some of the anecdotes in the 120-page book, as mentioned in a press release by Sureh-Mehr.
Hosseinpur tried to choose anecdotes that are related to the present situation in Iran and world at large, although the stories and interpretations are not limited to specific readers or a particular time.
Soheil Nuri and Ali Moradi joined Hosseinpur for selecting the stories and Purya Alami collaborated with him in revising the stories as well as graphic works of the book.
Future volumes of the collection will cover selected anecdotes from Rumi’s Masnavi and also from Obeyd Zakani.
The project is sponsored by Iran’s Research and Production Center for Animated Motion Pictures (RPCA Pictures) which is affiliated with the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization.
