Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is set to spark a summer race to sign 18-year-old Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham.

Sunderland — flush following the £20million sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool, who are also interested in Wickham — are ready to bid about £10m and hope the attraction of regular first-team football in the Premier League will be a factor in his decision.
