Iran basketball coach Mehran Hatami believes that a high-level Australian team can help the Asian basketball teams in the future.

The Boomers won the title after beating Iran 79-56 at the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup final match in Beirut, Lebanon Sunday evening.

Australia and New Zealand made their debuts in the FIBA Asia Cup.

“Australia’s participation in the FIBA Asia Cup provides us with an opportunity to develop and find out about ourselves,” Hatami said.

“Australia take advantage of high-quality players and it’s a great opportunity for the Asian teams to develop their skills. Our players can learn from their rivals in the tournament,” he added.

“I am satisfied with my players’ performance in the tournament and in believe that they did their best,” the Iranian coach concluded.
