Russian energy minister meets Larijani
TEHRAN – Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev held talks on Tuesday with the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani.
The Russian energy minister, who had traveled to Tehran to participate in the 19th meeting of the Russia–Iran intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, said the meeting is intended to assess the achievements made in 2025 and make plans for 2026.
Praising growing relations between the two sides, the energy minister said, “Over the past year, Russian and Iranian teams have worked closely together, and good relations have been formed between the parties.”
He also announced that close personal and professional relations have been established between him and the Iranian oil minister that has paved the way for more effective cooperation.
Iran and Russia have been developing energy cooperation in recent years.
Russia and Iran possess the first and second-largest gas reserves in the world, respectively. Iran holds the third-largest proven oil reserves in the world, while
Russia has the ninth-largest proven oil reserves. Together, the two countries account for a significant share of global energy reserves, giving them substantial potential to influence regional and international energy markets through cooperation in production, infrastructure development, technology exchange, and export strategies.
