TEHRAN — Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has formally protested Jordan’s role in facilitating American and Israeli military aggression against Iran, accusing Amman of allowing the use of its territory and airspace for attacks that violate international law.

In a letter sent Sunday to Secretary-General António Guterres and the president of the Security Council, Iran’s ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, rejected what he called baseless allegations made by Jordan in a recent communication to the world body. He asserted that Jordan had deliberately disregarded the fact that the United States and Israel had launched attacks on Iran in clear violation of fundamental principles of international law.

“By reversing the legal reality, Jordan instead sought to place the blame on Iran, which is the victim of the aggression,” Iravani said in the letter.

According to the Iranian envoy, monitoring by Iran’s armed forces indicated that American and Israeli forces had repeatedly used Jordanian territory, airspace, and facilities to carry out deadly attacks against Iran. He cited the use of the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, Jordan, by fighter jets including F-15, F-16, and F-35 aircraft, as well as American aerial refueling planes that crossed Jordanian airspace in support of the operations.

Iravani said such actions amounted to a violation of international law, under which states are obligated not to allow their territory to be used for attacks against other countries.

The strikes, he added, had caused extensive civilian casualties and damaged residential areas and critical infrastructure inside Iran.

Iravani called on Jordan to immediately halt any support or facilitation of such operations and to prevent the use of its territory or airspace against Iran. He said Tehran reserved the right to pursue legal measures internationally to seek accountability and compensation.
