Iran, China Stress Expansion of Bilateral Ties

TEHRAN -- The visiting Chinese Minister of State Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, Liu Jibin, and First Vice President Hassan Habibi here on Saturday stressed on further expansion of Tehran-Beijing ties.
Referring to friendly relations between the two countries, Habibi called for further promotion of bilateral cooperation, in the areas of science and defense technology in particular.
He also underlined the need for further expansion of Iran-China cooperation at the regional and international organizations.
Calling his meetings with the Iranian senior officials as positive, Jibin voiced his country's interests to bolster ties with the Islamic Republic.
As to the recent visit to China of President Mohammad Khatami, he said the visit has opened a new chapter in the two countries' all-out cooperation.
He further stressed that both Iran and China enjoy identical views regarding various international developments.
The Chinese minister arrived here on Tuesday night at the invitation of the Defense Minister Vice-Admiral Ali Shamkhani.
