TEHRAN - The members of the Planning and Budget Commission of the Majlis reviewed the causes of the failure of efforts to reduce the size of the government and make it more efficient during a session with the director of the Management and Planning Organization on Tuesday.

Majlis Deputy Seyed Afzal Mousavi of Zanjan said that the efforts at reducing the size of the government and increasing its efficiency carried out in line with the Third Five-Year Development Plan have not been successful.

He added that it was proposed that during the first stage a definition of the government should be determined according to which the process should be implemented.

The MP underlined that another way to reduce the size of government is by eliminating parallel organizations in various sectors.

Mousavi added that the sale or transfer of state-owned companies to the private sector is another way to reduce the size of government.

He concluded by saying that the Majlis will pursue the issue along with the Management and Planning Organization.
