TEHRAN -- Iran ended a 29-year drought on Sunday as it set a new 4x400m relay record after almost three decades in Kazakhstan, said Athletics Federation.

A four-member track-and-field of Iran's Islamic Azad University clocked 3:09.08 minutes, winning the gold of Kazanov Cup and breaking the record of the country set by the quartet Entezari, Alamshah, Arshadi, and Kuwaiti 29 years ago in the Asian Games in Tehran.

The varsity side comprises Mohammad Akefian, Ehsan Mohajer-Shojaei, Esmaeil Kaboutaran, and Vahid Yazdani-Nejad, IRNA reported.

Kazakhstan ranked second and the third title went to Uzbekistan.
