Peace Bombs and War Bombs

October 9, 2003 - 0:0
The Zionist regime sent its war planes to bomb Syria on Sunday. However, last month twenty-seven Israeli Air Force officers dropped a different kind of bomb, a peace bomb. The 27 pilots signed and published an open letter stating that they would no longer obey orders to attack civilians.

Zionist officials have said that they ordered the attack on Syria in retaliation for a recent action of the Palestinian resistance group Islamic Jihad, claiming that Islamic Jihad has bases in Syria, but perhaps the attack was actually a response to the peace bomb. After all, the peace bomb seems to have had serious repercussions in Israeli society as well as internationally.

It seems that the Israeli pilots who dropped the peace bomb will be riding the peace train all the way to prison. Zionist officials have ordered them to retract their statement or be punished. Apparently the peace bombers are standing their ground and are willing to face the consequences of their action.

This very well may be the breakthrough everyone has been waiting for that will lead to peace in Palestine. These 27 pilots obviously view Palestinians as human beings. They are the kind of Israelis who are interested in dialogue with Palestinians. Unfortunately, they will probably be sent to prison.

Warmongers are never able to negotiate peace. It is best to send doves to peace talks, yet the Israelis have almost always sent hawks to peace talks with the Palestinians and then blamed the Palestinians when the talks broke down due to the inflexibility and arrogance of the Zionist hawks.

After all the nonsense of the Oslo Accords and the road map, which have led nowhere, most probably intentionally, the peace bomb is a breath of fresh air. Finally, some people in Israel have said something that sounds sensible and sincere. Where this will all lead nobody knows, but it’s a start.

Some Muslims believe this is a trick, just another Zionist game of good cop, bad cop. This is not likely, but even if that is the case, the pilots’ letter will still have an effect. Their eloquent condemnation of orders that they call illegal and immoral and their refusal to obey such orders have been recognized across the globe. The peace bomb shook the world.

The pilots wrote that the occupation is actually corrupting Israeli society. Apparently they understand that the Zionist regime’s brutal suppression of the Intifada and the degrading way in which they are treating Palestinians are actually doing more to destroy Israel than all the activities of all the Palestinian resistance groups.

The peace bombers have realized a profound truth: dehumanization of the enemy eventually leads to dehumanization of your own society.

At the end of the day, people must decide whether they want dialogue among civilizations or clash of civilizations. Meanwhile, innocent people continue to die as the dispute between war bombers and peace bombers drags on. Hopefully, more peace bombs will be dropped.
