29 Oilfields Provide Iran’s Major Oil Production

TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) – About 95 percent of Iran’s total oil production is carried out in 29 oilfields, Mohammad Hashem Baqerpur managing director of South Zagros Company said here Sunday. “This is performed in 22 land oilfields and 7 sea fields.”

Ahwaz, Marun, Asmari, Gachsaran, Aqajari, Bangestan, and Bibihakimeh are the major resources on land, containing 80 billion barrels, he added. “These are partly used and their capacity is continuously decreasing,” he stated.

The problem persists where other developed oilfields produce only five percent of the entire land output, Baqerpur uttered.

He also said that 28 fields, including Darkhovin, Shorum, Rigg, Dorud, and Sarvestan, have not been yet brought into operation.

Meanwhile, he added that Abuzar, Salman, Forouzan, Sorush, Noruz, and Siri fields produce almost 90 percent of the oil production volume at sea. “There is more oil in reserve in sea oilfields compared with the remaining land capacity,” Baqerpur stated.

Researches prove that most of the functional oil resources of the country are rapidly aging, he regretted, saying relevant officials should mainly focus on accelerating the development of less used oilfields to compensate for the production decline. ER/IS END MNA
