MONTREAL (AFP) -- A 22-year-old woman was arrested then released after officials at Alberta's Edmonton Airport found firecrackers in her hand luggage and two pipe bombs, police said Sunday.

Jocelyn Anne Reily, who is from British Columbia in western Canada, was charged with illegal possession of explosives after airport X-ray screening machinery showed she was carrying around 100 firecrackers in her hand baggage Saturday.

"She was then escorted to a secure area where security officers found the two pipe bombs," said Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Al Fraser.

The woman, who has now flown back to Vancouver, will appear in court today. She was said to have released how serious her actions had been only when police questioned her.

"She is not part of any terrorist group according to what our investigators found," said Fraser.
