Spokesman scolds Blair
The British government should be concerned about the worries of the Muslim population of the Middle East about Israel’s nuclear weapons rather than misleading the global public opinion, Hosseini said in response to Blair’s recent claim about Iran’s civilian nuclear program.
Britain extensively provided Israel with weapons in its recent attacks on Lebanon, the spokesman stated.
Prime Minister Tony Blair has claimed that it is crucial that Britain and its allies do whatever is necessary to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Hosseini stressed that “the Islamic Republic, as it has repeatedly emphasized, is seeking its definite legal rights to peaceful use of nuclear technology within the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and reports by the agency’s (IAEA) inspectors verify that Iran has not deviated from civilian nuclear activities.”
Regrettably, among the states negotiating with Iran, Britain has always stoked an atmosphere of distrust, he stated.
Hosseini expressed surprise about Blair’s repetitious claims.
Britain questions Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities whereas it has been trying to double the capacity of its nuclear power plants and is spending billons of pounds to advance its missiles and nuclear arsenal based in Britain and other European states, he added.
