TEHRAN (PIN) – National Petrochemical Company (NPC) deputy Sunday announced that 8.3 billion dollars had been so far invested in the petrochemical sector of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ), Assaluyeh, southern Iran.

Reza Afshin talking to the senior managers of the NPC in the Conference on Modern Petrochemical Era added, “Of the figure, over 5.4 billion dollars has been allocated to the production.”
The NPC production control manager predicted the total investment in the petrochemical industry of PSEEZ would bear fruit in the production sector by the end of current Iranian year – mid-March 2008.
He, however, referred to scores of obstacles in the way of production and said the unflinching efforts of staff and experts resulted in a considerable increase in 2007 petrochemical output when compared to that of previous years.
Afshin said Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex (BIPC) was the record holder in terms of production, adding, “In the first three quarters of the (Iranian) year (March 21 to Dec. 21), petrochemical complexes produced more than 15.97 million tons of products and the figure will soar to over 22 million tons by March 2008.”
The conference kicked off in PSEEZ Sunday and will run through Dec. 26.
Gholamhossein Nejabat, the NPC managing director, said the gathering aimed at boosting the industry’s activities in the second petrochemical phase of PSEEZ.
He said participants in the conference would also discuss the acceleration of construction of petrochemical complexes in the path of west ethylene pipeline, completion of feasibility studies on east and central ethylene pipelines, and above all the enforcement of Article 44 of the Constitution in the petrochemical sector.
Assaluyeh is a town in Bushehr Province, southern Iran. Located on the shore of the Persian Gulf some 270km southwest of the provincial capital of Bushehr, it is best known as the site for the land based facilities of the huge PSEEZ project. The town itself is of minor significance, although it is common practice to refer to PSEEZ (established 1998) and Assaluyeh town collectively as Assaluyeh.
Mobin, Pars, Nuri, Zagros, and Ghadir petrochemical complexes have become so far operational in Assaluyeh.
Assaluyeh was chosen as the site of the PSEEZ facilities as it is the closest land point to possibly the largest natural gas field in the world, the South Pars gas field. In addition, an existing airport and direct access to international waters via a deep water port were already present.
The PSEEZ has been allocated 100 square kilometers of land at Assaluyeh for the various complexes and facilities. The site is a collection of different plants and refineries, known as phases, and is administered by the PSEEZ agency onsite, according to Wikipedia.
A total of 27 phases are envisaged (12 gas, 15 petrochemical), plus a mix of light and heavy industries, and associated support facilities such as factories and warehouses. The scale of the project is huge. So far only 18 phases are have either been opened for tender, are under construction or completed.
PSEEZ is a workers town -- tourism is nonexistent.
According to Iran’s Oil Ministry, sales of products from the PSEEZ could be as much as $11 billion dollars per year, over 30 years.
